  • measure the product quality produced, environmental aspects and energy consumption using key figures
  • and motivate our employees for an individual and joint commitment to the continuous and innovative improvement of company processes

Analyses at the highest level

Ion chromatography (IC)

In our analytics laboratory, we can determine very small quantities of ions qualitatively and quantitatively using the high-precision Metrohm 930 Compact IC Flex ion chromatograph. We identify various anions such as nitrate, sulphate or fluoride in-house.

ICP-OES

(Inductively coupled plasma – optical emission spectroscopy)
The ultra-modern ICP-OES spectroscope is also able to qualitatively and quantitatively determine minute quantities of ions. This allows us to identify various cations such as aluminium, iron and chromium, as well as anions such as phosphate and sulphate.

Salt spray test

During process monitoring, we carry out corrosion tests in our VLM 400-FL and VLM 400-S salt spray chambers. The chambers are regularly used to test the baths under standardised conditions.

X-ray fluorescence analyser (XRF)

Our XRF Thermo Fischer Niton XL3t is used for process monitoring. It determines metals locally in alloys or coatings and thus helps to check test panels or specific coatings.

Taber abrasion test

During the process check, we use the Taber abraser test to determine the abrasion and wear resistance of certain coatings. We regularly use this test under standardised conditions when testing the baths.

Digital microscope

State-of-the-art digital microscopes are used to monitor the process. This allows the smallest structures, such as etching pits or pores, to be visualised. With the appropriate software, the surface topography can be visualised in the micrometre range.

FAQ about the laboratory at Metalux

What tasks does the laboratory fulfil at Metalux?

Our laboratory handles the quality assurance of all coating processes, carries out daily bath analyses, material tests and result checks – and documents everything carefully. This is how we ensure that your components meet the highest standards.

Are external analyses also offered?

Yes, our laboratory services are not only available for internal process control – we also offer laboratory analyses as a service. This means that our customers also benefit from the highest test quality and fast results.

Which technologies are used in the laboratory?

We work with state of the art measurement and analysis technology to ensure precise and reproducible results – from coating thickness measurement and spectral analysis to corrosion testing.

How does the laboratory contribute to process reliability?

By continuously monitoring the baths and shift systems, we recognise deviations at an early stage. This allows processes to be adjusted immediately to ensure consistent quality and maximum process reliability.

What norms and standards does the laboratory fulfil?

Our laboratory work is fully integrated into the certified quality management system in accordance with EN 9100 and Nadcap. This ensures that all tests are carried out in a standardised and traceable manner.
